Today the method of information transmission has evolved into logos of globally recognized social networks. The metaphor of a paper airplane or a bird suggests that the message in the chain designer-client must arrive at its destination in a matter of seconds.

However, even a separately created conversation with its ability to store photos of freshly laid parquet or a receipt for payment of electrical work (as a guarantee for both parties) somewhat limits interaction in the modern world.

However, the metaverse opens up new horizons beyond the confines of consciousness. Many of its three-dimensional spaces and simulations have permeated all spheres of human life to the extent that they have questioned interest in reality.

Against the backdrop of major brands that have begun to explore digital lands in order to cast yet another marketing lure (selling items for twice the “earthly” amount, if it’s a fashionable clothing manufacturer, for example) now everyone is trying to enter the gaming field. From a teenager assembling a kit on Roblox to the founder of a large hardware store offering interactive assembly of modular furniture.

The guest list for the immersive ball includes the entire multifaceted design industry. However, we do not intend to share virtual exhibitions of finishing materials with anyone else, so let’s focus specifically on architecture and interior design. And let’s try to determine the advantages of “migration” to uncharted digital territories for this niche.

Checkpoint is budget saved

Partly, the metaverse is a gaming platform where one can break established rules transferred from the physical world, look at oneself from the side, and not worry about a budget that has swollen like a finger.

In the metaverse there’s no need to worry about overpayments due to the unscrupulousness of a freelance designer. Because in the game, we go through “levels” and can save a position characterized as “rescued.”

In life everything is much more pragmatic. If you had to pay and still end up with a project that’s no different from a 3-year-old’s drawing, then you’ll have to earn more. And find a new design studio. Virtual worlds with their checkpoints are our safety island! Especially if this island is created by us alone.

Everything imaginary is free

In theory, within the metaverse one can also save on materials for finishing a new office or any other designed space. Production costs approach zero and deadlines, which are often a crucial factor in efficient client-studio design collaboration, are not disrupted. All of this accelerates the personalization of developed products.

Metaverses open up exciting possibilities for the field of interior design. They grant designers freedom of action igniting their imagination in a positive sense. Interior concepts that were once timidly dubbed “space-age” can now rightfully resonate within the virtual universe.

The gifts of the metaverse, such as unearthly materials (Martian glass, the found deposits of which on the red planet spark debates among scientists, or innovative plaster), technologies and laws of nature allow for a different perspective on physical objects. This endows design projects with abstraction at the molecular level revealing new facets of human consciousness.

Changing interiors before your eyes

However, how can a client immerse themselves in a new experience alongside the designer? The metaverse is built on the principle of unity of space and allows for project demonstration even using a browser. This means that the benefits of immersion can be literally tasted by the entire globe (even when the designer and client are at opposite ends of it). And for this, virtual reality glasses or physical presence in the same square meter by two participants are not always necessary.

Furthermore, the metaverse is an ironclad guarantee for the client, who, while inside their future apartment, can observe how quickly the wallpaper on the walls changes to plaster for painting according to their momentary desire in real-time. Metaverses similarly facilitate collaboration among entire teams consisting of designers, architects, managers (and others) providing clear and swift feedback.

Inclusivity of design in Metaverses

With the help of an enhanced version of the Internet some government leaders are transferring entire cities into virtual spaces creating digital counterparts. Such “copying” of architecture and infrastructure (physical objects) with its shops and cafes lays the potential for democratizing design. It becomes accessible not only to those who are in touch with a designer while being hundreds of thousands of kilometers away from them. In metaverses overall efforts are made to eliminate boundaries in the form of disrupted physical mobility or language barriers. VR technologies contribute to this involving a wide range of people in the process of expressing creativity and designing beautiful interiors (everyone can, for example, move furniture, visit design exhibitions or go to hardware stores for flooring).

Preservation of historical heritage

Sometimes it’s difficult for a client to prove that the 3D visualization of their interior will not differ significantly from the picture that will be “painted” after the apartment renovation.

Metaverses, however, are designed to surpass even static photorealistic images immersing the client in another world. Moreover, metaverses can become a digital platform for hosting projects aimed at preserving the phenomenon of design itself. Both in parallel and its individual parts in the form of cultural heritage objects. Semi-ruined buildings, burned-down cathedrals or simply the interiors of museum apartments representing commercial interest can be “recorded” in 3D and placed in the virtual universe using special programs. Such goals address the issue of continuity leaving a legacy for future generations. Only now it is stored not in the pages of books but in the digital field of immersion.

By the way, about the future. There is a probability that the guides to the new world of design (including interiors) will be representatives of Generation Alpha. These kids born in the midst of the technological boom with a phone in hand effortlessly build houses from diapers and choose in which style to design their bedroom or living room. Moreover, they use, unknowingly to most millennials, tools of the Unreal Engine, which are incomprehensible to many. It turns out that some are racing against time, losing to it, while others, instead of flakes for breakfast, feed on innovations, which serve as their main source of life. And by the end of 2030, it seems, it will become unreal.
